About us

Coffee with basil was started in 2023 by me, Aaron as a guide for young adults to understand basic financial knowledge.

After talking with several other people around my age group, I was amazed how little understanding most young people had about the world of finance – many saying that it was something that they wish they had learned in school or even from their parents growing up.

Being fortunate enough to have grown up in a household that was very conservative with money – I had learned the value of the dollar at a young age, as well as from my own past financial struggles.

I had decided to start this blog to share my knowledge with others, so that perhaps they can gain the same understanding I had learned throughout my life.

My Story

Growing up in a lower middle class family with old fashion parents, I learned the value of a dollar pretty quickly in life. I started mowing lawns at age 12 and have been working ever since. I have always had a thing for saving money, and became obsessed with watching my savings grow. I enjoyed everything involving business and finance and probably would have became a banker myself, but I could never see myself working an inside behind a desk all day.

As a young adult – now having more finical responsibility, I quickly found out I wasn’t making enough to support myself. My savings was quickly depleting and like many others, I had started racking up debt.

All in all, even while I struggled with the joys of figuring out adulthood, I managed to always pay my bills on time and never let my debt hurt my credit.

Eventually, I had found a career and was able to quickly pay off my debt and start saving again, and even buy my first house – all by simply sticking with the money saving principles I was taught as a child by my parents and grandparents.

Now, as a home-owning, middle-class busy adult, I still enjoy discussing finances with my friends and coworkers. I am often times giving them advice, and had began to realize not everyone had the same financial understanding that I had been taught. I realized how much basic financial knowledge everyone seemed to be lacking. I decided to start this blog, not only to discuss finances as my own personal hobby, but also as a means to help others who might be struggling.
